Ryan and DeAnnalyn Teal, aka The TEALs and the owners of TEAL Salon in Portland, Oregon, hit upon a new styling technique, totally by accident.

In the process of creating a fun whimsical photo shoot titled, “Lighter Than Air,” the Teals were making wigs and ironing wardrobe at the same time. Their dog knocked over the iron and some synthetic wig material melted, creating a new medium they decided to to call “Fried Cheese.” The unique testures bring a Dr. Suess-like feel to the collection. On Saturday and Sunday September 25th and 26th, we were privileged to share with some of the greatest hair dressers from around the country our Method of Dressing Long Hair. It was not easy, some were expecting a haircutting class but in all even the naysayers who said they COULD NOT dress hair delivered some amazingly beautiful looks in no time using the 80 / 20 rule

We laughed, we cried, I fell off the stage but in all a good time was had by all. We look at each and every person that was in attendance as family and we look forward to spending more time with them in the future.  We also believe that every one that came is one step closer to being a “HAIR DRESSER”.

BABAK Singing Motley Crue

I swear I love my Job and i am super thankful for all of the incredible opportunities i am given. On September 21 and 22 DeAnnalyn, Janelle, SeAnn and I were allowed to demonstrate what it takes to shoot for North American Hairstylist of the Year Awards in front of a student body of 100+ Future Hairdressers.

The class started with a download of DeAnnalyn’s Color Collection inspirations, we than introduced the models. Next DeAnnalyn and I did something we have never done in a class much less a photo shoot before. We asked the students to pick the hair cut and color placement for each model. I guess we figured that if we didn’t get a nomination we could blame it on the students

The Next day we shot our collection LIVE. “I believe this gives the students a look at what we do to prepare for a shoot. It also allows the students to feel as thought they are a part of us, and what we are doing.” -DeAnnalyn Teal

I have to say allowing the class to control what you do and showing every trick you have is hard and quite stressful, it is kinda like taking a knife and cutting open your chest and letting everyone take a look inside to see what makes you tick. It leaves you quite exposed.

The CRUE

On the last day DeAnnalyn and I rented a studio in down town Salt Lake and Shot The rest of our NAHA Collection of the Year, I think the images are quite AMAZING and again i love working with my Team. But what i was and am MOST Proud of is that our Daughter TUESDAY did hair for her own Student Category. I am amazed at how she was able to come up with a concept for wardrobe, and hair. She made for hairpieces on her own that left me dumbfounded. I almost want to quit doing hair because her Collection was SOOOOO GREAT. Cross your fingers for us for this years NAHA lets hope it is a TEAL Family Sweep.

This Year has been crazy with all of the in salon classes for and huge hair shows we have participated in around the country DeAnnalyn and I have decided to participate in some smaller hair shows independently as well, promoting our new DVD series, Tool boxes and what not. I have to say that it has been a huge eye opening experience as to what vendors have to go through to touch the hair dresser at the local level. The beauty of these show for DeAnnalyn and I though is that we get to meet hairdressers around the country and we get to share with them our long hair dressing method as well learn from them in return. Sure it is expensive to ship all of your stuff and find models, and pay for travel…But We feel that the friends we have made is worth it 10,000x.

On May 1st and 2nd The L’Oreal Team met in Austin Texas for the RDA Show. The Third Showing of L’Oreals Journey of the bride Featured Ryan TEAL on MC, along with Jaylin Youm, Jennifer “J.Mac.” Macdougall, and DeAnnalyn TEAL dressing the brides and putting up with Ryan.
