TEAL Salon in “Hair Preview Guide 2010″

March 30th, 2010

hair-style-guide-20103821

hair-style-guide-2010383The TEALs, the award-winning husband and wife team and co-owners of TEAL Salon (formerly Capello Salon) in Portland Oregon have a new collection! The latest body of work called “Prismatic Hues”features bold new looks with robust shapes and highly dynamic color. Makeup Lindsey Avenetti; Photos Taggart Winterhaulter for Purley Visual

Kira had very long naturally brown hair with over grown layers and oput of control bangs. To update her style The Teals created a dramatic look with bold blond shades in front and a series of rich chocolates every where else. To fit the color, a very blunt bang was added and than shattered out layers were applied to the front. The end result is a mud flap sort of feel with roundness on top and scooped into panels that swoop inward to hug her face.

To complete the style, The Teals used (The now discontinued brand of) Jet Boy Jet Girl Slick Boy pomade over the surface to smooth down any fly aways. System Control was misted over the surface for hold and a dab of Clay Boy was used to piece the ends just slightly.

Meredith had very heavy bangs, with one length hair that spanned all the way down to her elbows. It was so overly long that her face looked as if her face was being swallowed by the hair. Her color was a natural light brown that was colored to dark blond.

DeAnnalyn Teal wanted to balance the rest of her color to her natural eyebrow color to bring out her skin tone. To get the best of both worlds, she added dark mahogany hues and kept some of the lighter blond. That way her color was not totally solid.

The cut is a modern Coco Channel sort of look but with disconnected pieces in the front. Ryan Teal added a chewed off bang for edgy, bitten feeling. The hair was blow dried with a Denman brushed with a nickle sized amount of a light gel. Ryan flat wrapped to follow the shape of her head and to add soft roundness all while eliminating Merredith’s slight natural wave.

Amy’s hair was a natural dark blond shade with long overgrown layers. For her new color, DeAnnalyn created a dimensional series of blondes and reds. Ryan took over and started the cut with the fringe in mind. After prepping the hair with a straightening balm, he blowdried and flat ironed but leaving a slight bit of body. He took deep triangular section in front and cut a 60’s inspired, ultra bold fringe. Next he added shaggy layers. A fine mist of hairspray was used for soft hold while a shiny but light pomade was used over the surface to remove fly aways.

February 17th, 2010

DeAnnalyn and I are excited that TEAL Salon is growing with talented staff, and we are proud to announce that Jacie and Mikayla have completed the New Talent Designer portion of our Stylist training program.Within the last 18 months Jacie and Mikayla have had to bring in an excessive amount of Models, they have had to give up there free time to come to in salon trainings, and they have also had to prove to us that they can deliver the Highest quality service to you our guests at TEAL.

I have known “Hurricane” Jacie since she was 16,  She was  a student of mine at European Institute of Cosmetology, where she was a part of the Platform Artist Society, a hand picked group of students that were trained  how to Teach Hairdressers, How to put on Hair Shows, and how to Organize Photo Shoots. Jacie has always had a great attitude and at times can be loud and obnoxious. She reminds me alot of myself when i was starting to do hair. I have seen her grow from a snotty teenager with attitude, to a well trained hairdresser. I cant wait to see what she will do next.

100_22241

I have  known Mikayla just about her whole life not only was she was also  a student of mine at European Institute of Cosmetology,as well as a member Platform Artist Society, but i have  have known her through her parents that used to host educational events featuring DeAnnalyn and myself. I remember Mikayla and Tuesday playing backstage at hair shows. Mikayla is a huge asset to our team, and DeAnnalyn and I consider ourselves lucky to have her.

DeAnnalyn and I ask you to join us in Congratulating Jacie and Mikayla in there promotion to Designer Status.

Kim Vo Article about INOA

November 7th, 2009

I was just sent this article thought i would pass it on.

Kim Vo

In a recent column, I praised the Italians for their contribution to the world of haircolor with the distinctive “lacing” technique. Now, it’s time to shine the spotlight on the French.

Early next year, L’Oréal Professionnel will unveil Innovation No Ammonia (INOA) in the United States and Canada. One of the most significant strides made in the haircolor industry in decades, INOA is destined to revolutionize the way we color hair. INOA is the world’s first-ever completely ammonia-free haircolor. Fundamentally different from past iterations of the product, INOA utilizes a unique way of fusing the dye molecules to the hair.

Traditionally, ammonia has been used to open up the hair cuticle to allow the dye molecules to slide in, which, as we all know, is less than kind to the hair. INOA works in an entirely different way. Although the exact process is proprietary, I can tell you that the product replaces ammonia with monoethanolamine, then adds an oil-based gel that replicates the natural essential oils in the hair. Just as the hair’s own oils penetrate the hair shaft, so does the gel in INOA, allowing the dye to be deposited.

According to L’Oréal spokespeople, INOA can provide up to three levels of lift and affords 100 percent gray coverage. What’s more, it imparts shine and texture, leaves hair soft and silky, and is gentler than ammonia-based products.

Speaking of L’Oréal spokespeople, I am not one of them. Translation: I am not paid to tout the company’s products. Instead, I think of myself as a watchdog for the haircolor industry, keeping pace with developments and trends and sharing them with you. I consider it an honor to get the word out about new products, particularly those that might help us do our jobs better than ever before.

Based on what I’ve learned about INOA, the art of haircoloring might never be the same again. And if the new face of the product means that we can take our clients to new heights of satisfaction, I’m ready to jump right in and give it a try. —
